Getting started with Augmented Reality and the FlarToolKit

04 Flar code

04 Flar code

step004

Next download the latest FlarToolKit code from the Libspark SVN repository. If you haven’t used SVN before we suggest you download a SVN client because most Flash libraries are stored in SVN. Navigate to your normal code library on your hard drive and download the latest SVN codebase, the URL is: www.libspark.org/svn/as3/FLARToolKit/.

05 Papervision code

Doing the same as you have in the previous step, locate your code folder and using an SVN client download the Papervision source code, some people have said to use Papervision Version 2, but we have tested the latest Papervision version with this tutorial and it all works fine. The URL is: http://papervision3d.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/.

06 Flex

Open up your desired code editor, for the purposes of this tutorial we will be using Flex Builder. From the file menu select ‘Create an ActionScript project’, add a suitable project name, in our case ‘Flar’, and then change the location of your project if required. Once you have done all this click the Next button at the bottom of the window.

07 Source files

step007

Seeing as you downloaded the FlarToolkit and Papervision code to your own code folder directory, in this step you need to select this code directory so that Flex knows where to find all the associated classed for the FlarToolkit and Papervision. Once you have done this you can press Finished.

08 Your pattern

The next step is to open up your Flex Navigator and then select the ‘src’ folder, do NOT select the ‘ src’ folder. In the ‘src’ folder you should see your Flar.as file. Now make the Flex IDE small enough so you can see the desktop, and drag your pat1.pat file into the ‘src’ folder.
