Add webcam fun with Flash

11 Inner frame

In order to give the frame even more of a cartoon look so that the image doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb, the next stage requires you to frame the actual image with a heavy black rectangle. This can either have a fill or it does not have to, as it is intended to sit under the image layer.

12 Image mask

152-052-step012

On the image layer, add the PNG file of the image you imported earlier. Your image, like the bear, might be too small, so scale it up to the correct size then add a mask. The easiest way is to take the inner fill from the last step and place it in the layer called mask, then right-click the mask layer to create the mask so that only the frame part is showing.

13 Adding the Lion

152-052-step013

Navigate back to the main timeline and create another Movie Clip, this time called ‘lion_mc’. Inside the Movie Clip, add the frame. Again, make sure you rotate the frame to fit the imported picture dimensions. Add the image to the image layer and the rectangle to the surround layer.

14 Adding the Monkey

152-052-step014

Once again, navigate to the main timeline and create another Movie Clip, this time calling it ‘monkey_mc’. Add at least three layers, or four if you need to resize your image. Just as in the previous steps, add your image, frame and surround. It would be wise to save your work now.

15 Add to the timeline

152-052-step015

Now you have created your masterpieces, it’s time to position them on the stage, placing each picture on its own layer. You can add them anywhere you like to give a kooky feel, but do remember you will have to add video and face masks in the next few steps, so don’t hide them behind other objects that you might have drawn on the stage.
