Yahoo! to host developer event
On 26 November 2009, Yahoo
On 26 November 2009, Yahoo! is inviting a cross-section of major brands, digital agencies and web developers to its inaugural Yahoo! Developer Evening. The event is to be held in London and will feature a presentation from Yahoo!’s Christian Helmann, International Developer Evangelist, detailing specifics about Yahoo! Application Platform (YAP) development and how UK developers can make the most of the opportunity from web applications.
Web applications, or web apps, are, arguably, this year’s hottest topic amongst developers. With such a wide array of apps available, from fun beer drinking apps through to sophisticated GPS based apps, there is a huge opportunity for developers to flex their imagination and, more importantly, make some serious money. A recent Business Week article estimated that the App market is worth at least a $1 billion USD today, and is headed for $4 billion USD by 2012 meaning apps are not just for fun.
Also at the event Yahoo! will announce the launch of a competition to find the best web app in the UK. The competition will run from 26 November to 18 January where all apps will be judged at an event on 20 January 2010. The winner of the event will have their app showcased and hosted on the Yahoo! homepage offering the successful contestant the chance of developer greatness and reaching an audience of 595 million unique visitors a month, worldwide.
Yahoo! is offering an open invitation to any brand – retailer, publisher, content provider – who want to benefit from Yahoo!’s massive audience and reach. Companies interested in participating in the competition can email yap-london@yahoo-inc.com for additional details
