Web Designer issue 172

Web Designer issue 172 goes on sale this Thursday (01/07/10), so here’s a quick look at the main sections of content:

The cover focus is web fonts and specifically the @font-face CSS rule which promises to change the way our pages look forever, and we’re so excited by it we’ve given the cover a special spot-gloss finish with invisible hits so watch out for that! Inside you’ll get an overview of the font scene and why typography can have such an influence over our designs, plus practical tutorials on applying @font-face and also working with font service Typekit…

FEATURES

Web fonts and @font-face (COVER), The Science of Layouts, A look back at Google I/O, Behind the Scenes with Pixelmags, Industry Q&A with agency Digital Marmalade, plus an opinion article from WeFail’s Martin Hughes

TUTORIALS

Widen your text styles with CSS @font-face techniques, Embed new font styles on your website with Typekit, Build a website in Flash CS5 without writing any code, Add dynamic sound to Flash with Sonoport, Finish your pages in style with CSS-based footers, Creating a typographical template in Photoshop, plus dding  lightbox-style gallery to your Drupal site

Received my copy a few days ago – Honestly, one of my favourite magazine cover designs ever, plus some really useful tutorials and features this issue. The importance of fonts when it comes to web design (and design in general) is often overlooked for some of the more flashy techniques. Keep up the fantastic work guys and girls! =)

Really great magazine. Because I subscribe to the iPad version, I don’t have access to the tutorial files on cd. I see that older issues have their files up in your archives section, is there a place to view files for the current version, or do I have to wait until the next issue is out?

      My CD doesn’t work!

      I bought 2 copies!

Love the Periodic Table of Typeface and associated article! Genius!

The Periodic Table of Typefaces is awesome. You should sell that as a poster! I would absolutely hang that in our office.

      Hi,

I would like to get a copy of this issue but they’re all sold out in South Africa. I’m very much interested in the “Layout Science” article. Is there anybody willing to sell me their copy? Please email me at:asyakob@gmail.com.
