Bigger commercial projects for BBDO, X Games and Eminem have translated cult appeal into the mainstream, but the unconventional approach in being an agency that just lets work find them keeps them aloof. So what was it that got them into using Flash in the first place, and how do they view what they do? “Though our design principles are heavily based in art, we’re not artists. It’s graphic design,” Hughes told organicflash.com. “Martin is very anti-art in this respect and I find it interesting”, responded Stone. “Personally, I think Flash as an art form needs a special identifier. A word that will instil in people the grave importance of works such as WEFAIL.” The pair originally met on an online forum, with both largely self-taught when it came to mastering the then-Macromedia-produced animator. Hughes left art school deeming a creative qualification futile, and first encountered Flash 2 attending a conference in San Francisco and was immediately inspired. “I thought, ‘I’m having a bit of that action!’”
Since then, they have won numerous awards, made the odd reluctant appearance on the Flash festival circuit and dabbled in the book-writing business.

“Milton Pool (http://primalinstinctpro.com) – this guy rocks! His Flash animation skills rival that of any Hollywood studio. Also, RV Trouillet’s (http://rvanim.com) Flash animation technique and creative storytelling is so amazing that it rivals that of the big Hollywood animated films and Japanese anime films that I’ve seen in recent years. When I watch Citeria, I can’t help but to ask myself, ‘is this really animated in Flash?’ All I can say is RV has definitely mastered his craft”
