Great article, is amazing how often on lower budget sites designers tend to just get stuck in without doing a bit of drawing. I think the attention to detail issue is something I see a lot with smaller studios.

Loving the news section here, I get the magazine as and when articles catch my eye but never thought to checkout the site for articles.

Superb, thanks for advice. Having read the last 3 editions of web designer and picked up loads of helpful information, this is the first time I have visited the web site, and ended up on this article! As a programmer that has had to learn design I am gradually changing my ways, and these tutorials are invaluable. Next step is to google “Mood Board”.

Useful info here, I have a bit of an arty background which is useful in the initial stage (ok so I got a BTEC in Art & Design! many years ago) but I have found that creating a story board of what you want to do/acheive is massively important. I keep a little notepad and jot down ideas firstly and add to them whenever I see something I like or feel would be useful. Then the story board is fleshed out, often upon looking at the story board conclusions are made A) this is out of my remit, B) it just won’t work!, C) perfect will crack on with it!

This article is excellent for design students, as when i got a job in web design i found it really difficult to get brief for the client and design directly onto screen. So i sketch out some of my ideas, or use sketching as a way to generate ideas.
